Easter Sunday Traditions: Decorated Eggs
The Easter egg is another symbol which originated prior to the Christian holiday. For many early cultures the egg was a symbol of rebirth and new life. Christians adopted the Easter egg as a symbol of the new life given to mankind through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter eggs can be dyed in the bright colors we commonly see or decorated in elaborate designs as is the custom in some European cultures. However they are decorated, the Easter egg is one of the most common and popular symbols of the Easter holiday.
