Christmas (Xmas) Traditions: Carols
Christmas carols probably began in the early days of the Church to joyfully remember and celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Outdoor caroling began in the Middle Ages with people carrying torches going from door-to-door singing sacred Christmas songs. As the centuries went on, new carols were written, some sacred and others merry tunes to celebrate the festivities accompanying the holiday. Carolers are traditionally acknowledged by homeowners with thanks or perhaps cookies and a hot drink.
